Every game is required to have an Official Scorekeeper that is provided by the Home team.
The Official Scorekeeper has a number of important responsibilities that will help the League and players.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before game time. Make sure you have a scorebook, pencils, erasers, and highlighters. Ask a team manager or board member for the keys if the scorebooth is locked.
Introduce yourself to the umpire and collect the original lineup sheets from both managers. The sooner you ask for lineups, the more likely the game will start on time!
Transfer lineups to the scorebook. Record player’s full first name and last name initial (especially for common names in league or division), uniform number, and position. Also indicate the Home and Visiting teams, name of umpire, your name as scorekeeper, and game location by field #.
Note the time game begins.
After the game, write the winning team and the score in large letters on a blank portion of the page.
During the game, record:
If you’re doing all this, then you're PROBS doing it right!
OTHER THINGS
You may call a timeout to ask the umpire to clarify a call or verify pitch counts.
Little League has very specific rules on the number of pitches a pitcher can pitch; it is important to note the ending pitch count of each pitcher in the scorebook.
You have a very important job, so block out distractions from the crowd and remain neutral.
Each manager is also responsible for their own pitchers’ count, but they might ask you to double-check.
Record offensive substitutions and defensive substitutions especially involving benched players, pitchers, and catchers.
